It's all about men! Winter 2013 edition

Image
The trend for men for Autumn/Winter 2013-14 is pretty much the same as women's! Basically, if you follow Johnny Depp blindly, you'll be doing really well. His dressing is the perfect playboy and nature inspired. Also to not forget that 60's-70's are playing a major role this season, invariably a lot of geometric print will be seen!  Here are some major trends: 1. Claret for men It's an unexpected entry this season but is definitely the most common seen colour this time. It's time to embrace this colour either through separates or if you really feel like it, go head to toe in it! Though a dark red would look perfect with another complementary colour. This hue could range between a burgundy to a magenta! 2.  Animal Instincts Now if you thought that animal print will not make it to menswear, whoa hey! Think again! It's here and it's big. But only if you are daring enough you indulge in an safari print outfit, otherwise keep it s...

Winter is here! Time to revamp the wardrobe; Trends for Women

Image
So to say, it's the end for neons for 2013! Pack them up because they'll be back next summers. And let's say hello to Pastels and Earthy colours. I have always enjoyed winters more than summers just because I can layer more, and of course the colours are always such that I can relate to more, and yea also the time I don't feel odd not being able to run in heels :| So here are few major trends for Fall/Winter 2013-2014: 1. 50 shades of grey Easy to say: not everything is black or white in winters. The pallete runs from charcoal to slate grey. Also a lighter grey can be a good neutral for this season. 2.  English Gardens Flowers aren't drying up this time, A lot of them are being used as mains this season. From big bold blooming flowers to small pansies; techni-colour roses to mono-chromatic flowers,it's just floral all the way! 3. Tartan it up! The major trend this time is the run to Scottish Highfileds to get those Plaids and Tartans...

The shoe must go on...

I follow some shoe rules! There are few kinds of shoes that everyone should have in their shoe closet! These are basic. You have these 10 and you are basically good to go. So here goes the Ten footwear styles : 1. The Flat Sandal : Probably known more common as the thong flats/slippers.  Perfect for summer to wear with ankle jeans, a skirt or a dress. They are super comfy and can be extremely stylish. Pick them up in bright colours, embellished with stones and/or dainty, intricate straps. 2. Espadrilles Another shoe that is fun for summer, adds height without the wobble and is capable of being paired with capris, shorts or a dress is the espadrille.  Flat espadrilles are also an option for summer casual chic attire.   TOMS are the best example for one! 3.   Ballet flats or loafers/slippers Tired of running around in your heels but you don't want to compromise on style? Ballet flats spell chic. Pair them with summer...

The unwanted side effects of your favourite colour

Let me just say it right away Black does not suit everyone! Wait! What! I repeat myself.... Black does not suit everyone! So now that, that's out; Let's discuss it The probably only bad effect of black is that it makes you a lot older and adds age and if you have any blemishes on your face, then it highlights it While wearing black does give the appearance of a slimmer figure by making the shadows from less visible, wearing it next to the face brings out the worst. It can also bring out dark circles under the eyes and lines. Also, it's just in five of us who have the correct skin tone to wear black as well And how to avoid the shadows of black? 1. Do not wear black as a polo-neck or scarf against the face 2. If you are wearing a black top, choose one which has a low neck-line so your skin tone will reflect your face 3. Black is better if worn from the waist down as it then flatters the right parts of the body and ofcourse should be teamed up with something ...

Rules of Layering- Men's edition

Confused? By the talk of "layering" in menswear- well most men are! Let's fix that... Layering is a great way to combine your favourtie pieces and wear something  comfortable and flexible, while showcasing your sense of style. A simple addition of a garment with another can go a very long way in changing the look of your ensemble. Rule#1 Thinner clothes first The closer to your skin, the thinner the material. Just make sure that the bottom layer isn't too loose. Rule#2 Each layer should be something that could be worn on its own Define each layer; Wearing a flimsy dress shirt does not classify as a good layering, if it is: Just avoid it! Rule#3 Outer hems should be longer than the inner hems Sure there are always expectations to this but it's not a good look, and you shouldn't be doing it unless you're really sure you want to. In particular, avoid a untucked shirt under a sports jacket or blazer. Rule #4 Mix in some colour Use compl...

Wear the classic White Shirt!

This time, it's something for the Men! I see men refraining from wearing white shirts often, never understood why! It's actually the least boring item of clothing. Always looks classy, can be made into a classy ensemble if worn with right things, so here are few tips about : what can be worn with a white shirt... 1. Let's begin with something casual! White shirt worn with shorts and sandals, This is your only chance to wear it rumpled and with rolled up sleeves. Take the most of it! Just make sure to look out for a tailored, unadorned pair, and yes, stay clear of anything with pattern or even a drawstring .  Colours could be possibly anything, for a summer anything pastel, black and navy are being a little safe, but sure! 2. A tweed Coat! Yes, it's a look of a school-teacher but it's just so old world class! The shirt could be left open for a casual look, and to make it preppy add a bow tie! Or just get inspired by Breakfast at Tiffany and wear a tie! If ac...

Sneaky tricks to look slimmer!

Image
Styling clothes to make one look slimmer can be a little hard, but there's always help! First step towards it, is to own a full size mirror! Helps, it really does! Here are few points to remember while buying new clothes: 1. Wrap dresses/blouses will always make you look thinner 2. Navy too, is slimming as much is black! Also, adding a belt on the waist/high-waist works instantly because that's a way of creating curves! 3. Color blocking and paneled dresses in the right direction is another trick, it's a detail that will make a person look thinner visually. 4. Opt for vertical stripes, it creates an illusion! And black and white stripes are in vogue as of now. Would be a good investment. 5. Choose layering! It's the safest option. Contrary to people's belief that layers will add on more weight it actually hides all the unwanted things. Investing in a denim jacket ...

Shoe Fetish : Because it's not always about the clothes!

Image
It all started while I was studying  Fashion Styling in England, the shoes, used to call out for me and I just couldn't resist! I was a little shoe-aholic before, but became a shoe-maniac out there. Started collecting shoes of all possible colours and all possible kinds!  I think its shoes that are the most important accessories and something that defines someone's personality or to least- the mood! For me, Shoes give me confidence! I also think that good shoes should be worn everyday and shouldn't be saved just for the weekend.Sometimes I feel fashion hurts, but then hey, that's what pays me! It's shoes that will either make or break an ensemble, add all the bling that's missing in the garment!  Got these shoes from China, with the cat print and a nice green color, they are so adorable and comfortable! Oh thy heels! These pink and orange heels, does wonders when worn with denims! Always remember: If your hair is done pro...

Shoe-string budget shopping: Wish list

Image
As a fashion lover, I prefer to buy fast fashion which is a decent word for cheap shopping! You buy cheap things wear them 5 times, and that's their worth! Just thought of collecting all that is on my (never-ending) wishlist for summer 2013, putting out 1 item from each category of clothing This season is all about animal prints, polka dots and stripes. This oh-so-cute panda summer jacket, perfect for a windy evening out with friends or just a casual movie/dinner, is from bluenote ,Canada. It does make it to the top of the list for just $29 Yes! The polka dots are back and are so lovely! This skirt can easily be dressed up with a fancy blouse and summer jacket or dressed down with a tank. This black and pink polka dotted skirt from New-Look,England is loved and is just for £14 The flatform boat shoes are so comfy for summer walking! The wardrobe capsule

Fashion loves change, and the faster the better. But as it moves continuously, there are some things that remain rock constant, wardrobe essentials that seem to transcend time, age and season. 1. The button down shirt A  favourite almost as much as it is a wardrobe staple, a quality shirt works for every occasion. If you feel white is too starchy and severe, try a very pale pink or cream 2. The jeans Don't be taken by fads for skinnies or flares: choose a simple, slim-fitting straight-legged pair that will always look good. Remember, soft indigo denim is timeless, but sandblasted is not. 3. The pencil skirt The pencil skirt's have been around for a very long time – but it's a shape that never goes out of style. Choose one with a bit of stretch so you can sit down in it! 4. The black trousers Classic black pants that can be dressed up for evening, or down for day wear. Worn with more formal pieces, black trousers are a basic and, dressed down, ar...

Is this you?

Does this sound like you: You wake up, shower, do your hair and, open your closet and ... so many  clothes  and none of them anything you actually want to wear.   We've all been there, when everything in the closet is too boring/not appropriate/doesn't fit right. It seems like it is 80/20 rule: which means we wear only 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the times which is not an ideal ratio.  The secret is building up an arsenal of wardrobe essentials- clothing item that will work for everyday and ones you can dress up or down and make your own. Once you have these wardrobe essentials (and a few fun extras), getting dressed in the morning will be as simple as whipping up a combo to suit your mood. Because wardrobe essentials have to go with lots of other clothing, they tend to be monochromatic and neutral in color. They also must work with different outfits. A blazer that you can pair with a skirt, pants, or a pair of jeans is a good example. Trendproof -...

That's how it started!

I was asked this question by one of my friends at school I went to. “Why do women love clothes and shoes so much? All I replied was “My idea of fashion is not all about the clothes and the makeup, but the excitement and energy that the industry gives off. It’s not just the “stuff”.” The tremendous thought the designers put into their clothes, models perfecting their struts and poses, photographers taking beautiful pictures, magazines that contribute by putting it in front of customers, and the manufacturers and hair and makeup artists: everybody comes together just to make something a reality. Whether a whole line of clothes or even just one shoe, so many people work hard to make it happen and that’s what I love about fashion. Fashion has always been a passion. Working in the fashion industry appealed to me from an early age but it wasn't until I discovered the role of 'fashion stylist' that the love affair began. As said by John Fairchild “Style is an expre...
